About Banjo’s New Norfolk Market
The Banjo’s New Norfolk Market is going from strength to strength as High Street turns into a hub of activity every Saturday! The positive social, cultural, tourism, and economic outcomes the market has brought to the community already speaks for itself how much of an asset it has become and as a result has really activated the centre of the town.
The market attracts hundreds to thousands of people each week including those locally, throughout Tasmania, the ‘mainland’ and even internationally.
The market has gained a positive reputation, and therefore has the motto of being the ‘friendliest market in Tasmania’ and this is a result of the wonderful atmosphere, stallholders and members of the public who frequent the market. Many people now include the market in their weekly routine, to grab fresh produce, socialise with others, and enjoy a wide variety of products and quality items the market has on offer.
Jessica Cosgrove is the sole owner/operator of the Market and is incredibly passionate about growing the market to become a must see local tourism attraction for years to come. Many hours of work goes in each week to organising the market and it is a wonderful feeling to witness first hand the joy it brings to so many people and how it enhances their livelihoods. When you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life and that is how Jessica feels about running this as a business. She is thankful to have the overwhelming support from her family, stallholders, local businesses and members of the community (in particular Banjo’s New Norfolk who sponsor the market) and with everyone working collaboratively it contributes to the fantastic community spirit for the benefit of the Derwent Valley as a whole.
The Banjo’s New Norfolk Market has on average 75 stallholders each Saturday and has at times exceeded more than 100. Stallholders love the feel good atmosphere at the market and they even have regulars who travel as far as Launceston, the East Coast and the Huon Valley to sell and showcase their products. The market sells literally everything you can think of including: fresh produce, jams & preserves, artisan breads, woodcrafts, plants, dog treats, jewellery, candles and melts, a variety of multicultural food vendors, arts and crafts, giftware, bric a brac and so much more!!
Adding to the atmosphere is the live music provided by talented buskers including Silver Zephyr her perform on a fortnightly basis, you will even find locals dancing and singing along with them! There is also face painting available each week for the little ones. The market prides itself on being pet friendly with dogs and birds being weekly visitors to the market!
The market also supports local community groups with being a proud sponsor of local radio station Tyga FM and providing free stall space for organisations such as the Salvation Army – Derwent Valley to help fund and support the wonderful work they do within the community.
